Visual storyteller and marketer-turned artist Varsha Perera will exhibit an eclectic collection of pieces based on her self-exploratory journey in her first solo exhibition, “Varna-Kaari”, on November 30 and December 1 at the Harold Peiris Gallery, Lionel Wendt in Colombo.
Varsha explains her collection as an effort to understand the complexities of the mind, deep emotions, and powerful human connections that bind us.

Varsha Perera
Born and raised in Colombo, Varsha began painting since childhood. With a background in Science and a (BSc) from Colombo University, Chartered Management Accountancy, and Executive Education from Harvard University, Boston, USA, she pursued a 20-year career as a marketing professional. Her extensive experience spans Asia with stints in Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and Hong Kong, while holding local and regional leadership roles.
“Two years ago, life gave me a blank canvas to paint the rest of my story in the colours I wanted. So in 2022, I chose to pursue painting professionally as ‘Varna by Varsha’, as I found the process enormously meditative, therapeutic, and mindful,” the artist said.
A testament to the quality and complexity of her work, Varsha has showcased her work internationally, participating in several exhibitions, including the Art Shopping Expo at the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris, Massaine Design in Abu Dhabi, and World of Crete in Greece.
The exhibition will showcase pieces in three categories under fine arts, decorative arts and portraits. The common thread that connects them all is the intricate Mandalas and vibrant colours, which bring to life the layers of emotions and human experiences that the artiste seeks to explore. Special showstopper pieces and collaborations with talented craftsmen will also be on display.
The Augmented Reality (AR) feature of the exhibition will enable visitors and art enthusiasts to see the painting in the room of their choice at home or office to see firsthand how it would blend in with the surroundings. The immersive virtual exhibition that will be launched at the event will enable art lovers to easily interact with art in real time. Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) of 10 of the paintings will also be launched.
