Sri Lanka’s Jevahn Sathasivam has qualified for the highly anticipated final of the CEAT Europe Range 133rd Sri Lanka Amateur Open Golf Championship after a narrow 1-up victory over India’s formidable Varun Muthappa in the semi-final match held yesterday at the Royal Colombo Golf Club.
In an intense semi-final, Sathasivam, who entered the tournament as the 19th seed, defied expectations by defeating Muthappa, who had finished second in the qualifying round. This win sets up an exciting final clash today between Sathasivam and Shamit Dakhane, who edged past Suraj Joshi by 1-up in the other semi-final.
The final between Sathasivam and Dakhane will be held over 36 holes, with the first round starting at 7:30 AM and the second at 2:00 PM.
In the Sri Lanka Women’s Amateur Championship, front-runner Kaya Daluwatte secured a commanding 8/7 victory over Yun Jeong Choi in the first semi-final while Sri Lanka Golf Secretary Anouk Chitty overcame Tiru Jesudasan 4/2 in the second semi-final. This sets up a much awaited final today between Daluwatte and Chitty, with rounds at 8:30 AM and 1:45 PM.
Meanwhile, in the FB de Mel Cup of the Ladies’ Championship, Elsie Pathmanathan claimed victory over Sithara Lawrence with a 2/1 win.
