SLT-Mobitel has joined forces with the Forest Department to undertake a mangrove restoration project in Pubudugama. The partnership aims to restore 4.2 hectares of mangrove ecosystems and ensure their long-term sustainability.
The agreement was signed recently at the Forest Department. Conservator General of the Forest Department, Nishantha Edirisinghe, Chairperson of the National Mangrove Experts Committee of Sri Lanka, Prof. Sevvandi Jayakody, Chief Marketing Officer of SLT-Mobitel, Prabhath Dahanayake, General Manager Marketing services of SLT, Anuruddha Suriarachchi and officials of SLT-Mobitel and the Forest Department were present. Chief Marketing Officer of SLT-Mobitel Prabhath Dahanayake said, “As a service-oriented organisation, SLT-Mobitel may not have much direct carbon emissions. However, we recognise our responsibility in energy consumption and are committed to supporting carbon reduction initiatives for the betterment of our country. SLT-Mobitel is pleased to embark on this project with a scientific approach to sustain our mangrove restoration program.”
Director General of the Forest Department, Nishantha Edirisinghe said, “SLT-Mobitel’s commitment to restoring mangroves is commendable and sets a positive example for other organisations.
“This initiative will not only enhance biodiversity but also strengthen community resilience against climate change.”
