The new inter-club league rugby tournament is scheduled to begin on November 27 with nine teams in the fray following the entry of Sri Lions who were promoted to the Premier League after winning the B Division.
CR and FC won the League title last season beating Kandy SC in the decider.
Kandy SC dominated the league tournament for nearly 20 years and the entry of Sri Lions is expected to add more excitement to the tournament that has most of the time being a one-horse race.
The clubs that will be in action are Havelock SC, CR & FC, Kandy SC, CH & FC, Sri Lions SC, Army SC, Police SC, Navy SC and Air Force SC.
The Sunday Observer learns that the entry of Sri Lions has also caused some ripples among rival teams.
Several leading schoolboy players of last year are expected to wear the Sri Lions jersey.
It is understood that many schoolboy players are vying to take the field with the leading club teams this year and Sri Lions have provide an opportunity.
Some clubs are also struggling with enticing commercial partners ahead of the season that will be played under new laws implemented by World Rugby.
