Two brothers, aged 25 and 27, lost their lives in the early hours of yesterday when the jeep they were travelling in veered off the road and plunged into the Bujjomuwa Oya (stream), near the Kamburapola Bridge in Kuliyapitiya.

Police said that the brothers drowned when the vehicle got trapped in the water. Their bodies were found in the submerged jeep after it was hauled from the stream by a crane, police said.

Police said that the driver may have lost control of the vehicle, which led to the fatal accident. The brothers, residents of Kurunegala, were pronounced dead on admission to the Kuliyapitiya hospital.

The family of the victims has since been informed, and the bodies were handed over to them for the funeral rites. Police are continuing further investigations.
