The School Library Group 2024/2025 of the Sri Lanka Library Association, in collaboration with the Galle Zonal Education Office, conducted a seminar titled ‘Empowering School Library Staff: Essential Skills for Modern Library Management’ recently.
The event was held at St. Aloysius’ College, Galle, on November 19. Around 82 school library staff were present.
The seminar featured two resource persons, Director, Department of Library and Museum, National Institute of Education, H. Sarath Nanda Kumara and Senior Lecturer, Department of Library and Information Science, University of Kelaniya, Dr. (Mrs.) K. R. N. Harshani. Their sessions offered insights into the modernisation of school libraries and practical strategies to overcome challenges. The key topics discussed included efficient Inventory Survey Techniques for school libraries, Sustainable Disposal Practices for Outdated Library Materials, Mastering Acquisition Registers and Essential Documentation and Innovative Activity-Based Services to Engage Library Users.
Convener of the School Library Group 2024/2025, Mrs. D. R. Chandima Dissanayake provided a brief overview of an upcoming competition focused on best practices in libraries. This initiative aims to encourage innovation and excellence among school libraries.
The Association will organise similar events in the future.
