Parliament to convene from December 3 to 6

Parliament will convene from December 3 to 6 as decided on at the Party Leaders’ meeting chaired by Speaker Dr. Asoka Ranwala on November 25, Secretary-General of Parliament Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera said.

The motion on the Government’s Policy Statement presented by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in Parliament recently will be debated on December 3 from 9.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.

It was further agreed that the debate will continue on December 4 from 9.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. with a division on the motion scheduled for 5.00 p.m.

At the Party Leaders’ meeting it was decided to hold the debate on the resolution on the Vote on Account for the first four months of 2025 on December 5 and 6 from 9.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.

Discussions were also held on the allocation of time for the debate between the Government and the Opposition, the composition of Government and Opposition representatives in committees, setting up the Committee of Selection and submission of nominations, formation of the Committee on Parliamentary Business and other committees, functioning of Sectoral Oversight Committees and consideration of a request to set up a Women Parliamentarians Caucus in the Tenth Parliament.

Deputy Speaker Dr. Rizvie Salih, Deputy Chairperson of Committees Hemali Weerasekara, Leader of the House Minister Bimal Rathnayake, Chief Government Whip Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa, and other Party Leaders participated.
