Chilaw Marians clinched the SLC Major Clubs women’s tournament title with a comprehensive 90-run victory over Army SC in the final at Colts ground last Sunday.
The match was reduced to 49 overs and Chilaw Marians notched up 205/7 with skipper Kaveesha Dilhari (80) and Imesha Dulani (71) caning the bowlers.
They were associated in a vital 120-run partnership for the third wicket, stabilizing the innings after an early setback.
Achini Kulasooriya was the pick of the bowlers, claiming five wickets for 37 runs.
Army SC started their chase on a positive note with openers Anushka Sanjeewani (35) and Nilakshika Silva (35) putting on a stand of 56 runs.
However, the rest of the batting order could not sustain the momentum and were all out for 115.
Chilaw Marians’ bowlers dominated with Sanduni Nisansala taking four wickets for just seven runs while Sulesha Sathsarani claimed three wickets for 30 runs.
