Associated Motorways (Pvt) Limited (AMW) and Yamaha Motor Co., Japan hosted the Sri Lanka Technician Grand Prix 2024, on November 30.

The event marked Sri Lanka’s first step in a journey towards excellence to develop the technical skills for Yamaha motorcycle and scooter technicians.

The Grand Prix served as a platform for Yamaha technicians from across the country, to showcase their talent and expertise as they competed for the title of ‘Sri Lanka’s Best Yamaha Technician’.

The Sri Lanka Technician Grand Prix aligns with the Yamaha World Technician Grand Prix, where technicians from around the world showcase skills as they compete for the prestigious title of ‘World’s Best Yamaha Technician’.

AMW and Yamaha aim to hold the Sri Lanka Technician Grand Prix once in two years, in the hope of creating a pathway for a Sri Lankan presence on the global stage.

The competition assessed technicians on several key areas, including hands-on practice, which is a demonstration of technical proficiency in real-world scenarios.

They also showcased their diagnostic abilities using the Yamaha Diagnostic Tool to identify and solve electrical problems. The final area was customer relations, which showcased their professionalism and customer-centric communication which ensure satisfaction and trust.

Group Managing Director of Associated Motorways Andre Bonthuys said, “The Sri Lanka Technician Grand Prix is a testament to AMW and Yamaha‘s dedication to nurturing technical excellence and recognising the role that technicians play in delivering superior customer experience. It is our hope that this event becomes a platform that helps Sri Lankan talent to shine on the global stage.” General Manager of OMDO, Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd., Japan, Shigeo Uchiyama said, “At Yamaha, we have always believed in instilling our technicians with the necessary skills and knowledge they need to succeed. We also believe in giving them the recognition they deserve, which is why the Sri Lanka Technician Grand Prix is a giant leap forward towards aligning with Yamaha’s global standards, so our customers get the best possible service.”
