The Lions Club of Diyawannawa has built a house in Indolamulla, Dompe, for the wife and child of a fallen war hero who sacrificed his life for the nation.

It has been built on a plot of land donated by Lion Gamini Pathirana of the Diyawannawa Lions Club, with financial and material contributions from club members. The Army Seva Vanitha Unit provided the labour for the construction.

The house was handed over to the war hero’s family on November 8, under the leadership of the Regional Chairman of Lions Club, Upul Atapaththu. District Governor of District 306 C1, Saman Jinadasa, Army Commander Lt. Gen. Vikum Liyanage and Army personnel were also present.

This marks the third successful initiative of the Shelter for Homeless project carried out by the Club.

Members of the Lions Club of Diyawannawa, under the guidance of Chairman Lion Sunil Liyanarachchi and Secretary Lion Thushari Rajapaksa, worked in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Army to make this effort a success.

Key contributors to this noble cause include Lions A.K.U.K. Satarasinghe, Chaminda Dhammika, Srimal Wijewardana, N.G.K. Karunawansa, W. Susil Perera, Manoj Suriyabandara, K. M. Tilakaratne, K.D. Kamila Wijenayaka, Chandika Weragala, Nuwan Priyadarshana, Shantilal Liyanage, Tony Wickramasinghe and Cyril Wettasinghe.
