Steps are being taken to evaluate the projects being implemented in the health service, including those of the World Health Organization (WHO), and to create a system that can achieve effective results using modern technology, Minister of Health and Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa told the World Health Organization’s representative in Sri Lanka, Dr. Alaka Singh when he met her at the Ministry recently.

Minister Jayatissa said that discussions are under way with international organisations to implement new projects to improve health protection, welfare and the living standards of the people. He agreed to continue the projects being implemented by international organisations such as the WHO and UNICEF to enhance the health service system.

Dr. Singh said that through increased cooperation and coordination between countries and proper management of projects, the health sector can achieve these goals and resolve the problems. She also said that the WHO will fully support the programs adopted by the new Minister of Health and Media to implement the projects effectively and will evaluate those programs.

The WHO Country Representative said that Sri Lanka should take control, prevention and management of vector-borne diseases to a new level, that the WHO and the United Nations are working together to create a continuous awareness and action mechanism on the health and other issues in the country, and that the WHO is working continuously to improve the nutritional status of infants and pregnant women in the country.

Minister Jayatissa said that in the past, the health sector has not been able to achieve the anticipated targets due to lack of proper evaluation and management of the projects implemented in the country, and that in the future it will be addressed by using modern technology.
