Havelocks have welcomed the entry of Sri Lions into the A division inter club League rugby championship and will be fielding a team in the women’s tournament led by Leah Gamage with Chamodi Sathsarani as her deputy.
The women’s team will be playing a total of five league matches most of them against teams from the three armed forces who are considered strong outfits.
President of Havelock SC Rajiv Perera said that they want to see more teams introduced into the A division drawing reference to Sri Lions who won the B Division title last season to earn a promotion.
“We want to see more teams introduced into the Premier League as this will increase the opportunity to improve the standards in the game. This will also open the doors for more school leavers to display their skills without their talents being wasted,” said Perera.
Havelocks have also increased their player list by signing contracts for three years with 12 players from St. Peter’s College, Isipathana College, Trinity College and Wesley College.
Internationally recognized rugby coaches Kruger Roach and Orene Aii are part of the coaching panel at Havelocks along with many reputed local coaches supporting them at ‘FLYHISPORTS RUGBY ACADEMY’.
The club has also retained the services of Saliya Kumara as head coach supported by Danushka Boteju.
