Royal College’s promising cricketer Rehan Peiris enjoyed a memorable debut series for Sri Lanka Under-17, crafting a stylish139 against Bangladesh Under-17 in the second and final three-day match at the Galle International Cricket Stadium.
His commanding knock guided Sri Lanka to a first-innings total of 304 before being dismissed.
At the close of play on the second day yesterday, Bangladesh were 231/5, trailing by 73 runs with five wickets in hand.
The 15-year-old opener playing his first international series showcased maturity beyond his years, anchoring the Sri Lankan innings.
Peiris added 95 for the second wicket with Navodya Samarasinghe, who contributed a valuable 48 and then partnered Senuja Wekunagoda, adding another half-century stand for the third wicket. His next crucial partnership came with skipper Kithma Withanapathirana that produced 45 runs for the fourth wicket.
Withanapathirana, who scored a century in the first game, played a supporting role with 28. Peiris eventually fell as the eighth wicket after facing 255 balls hitting 18 fours and two towering sixes.
