A group of officials of Iranian Tourism Agencies and Air Transport Association led by its Executive Vice President, Dr. Mortenza Shabani visited Sri Lanka on the initiative of the Sri Lankan Ambassador in Iran, N.M. Shaheed.
On arrival the delegation was welcomed by the President of the Chamber of Tourism Industry, A.M. Jaufer and officials of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB).
The Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tourism Authority and Tourism Promotion Bureau, Buddhika Hewawasam hosted a meeting with the visiting Iranian delegation last Friday and tourism opportunities between Iran and Sri Lanka was discussed at length.
Dr. Shabani said, “We are looking at Sri Lanka as the new tourist destination and are ready to promote it as a new destination to Iranian tourists”. The SLTPB Chairman was invited to participate in the trade fair to be held in Iran in February 2025.
Jaufer requested to hold the Iranian Travel Agency Annual Conference in Sri Lanka. Manager Marketing of the Sri Lanka Convention Bureau, Malkanthi Welilaka was also present.
Dr. Shabani said that Sri Lanka was the best holiday destination for Iranian tourists and added, “We are ready to work with the Sri Lanka tourism authorities to promote Sri Lanka to Iranian tourists.”
They also met the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance and Treasury Secretary, Mahinda Siriwardana, Director General of the Board of Investment, Renuka Weerakoon and Executive Director Investment Promotion, Prasanjith Wijayathilake.
