Mahamaya girl and Vidyartha boy best at TT

Yoshini Jayawardane of Mahamaya Girls College and Osada Upekshana of Vidyartha College were adjudged as the most outstanding players from among girls and boys respectively at the Central Province Open Ranking Table Tennis Championship held at the Municipality Indoor Stadium in Kandy last week.

The Championship conducted by the Table Tennis Academy of Kandy saw Yoshini defeat Ranumi Patabendi from Girls’ High School in the women’s singles final in straight sets 11-7, 11-6.

Yoshini also clinched the girl’s under-17 and 15 titles to earn her the title of most outstanding player.

Osanda Upekshana clinched the men’s Open title when he defeated his school-mate Dharshana Babarandage in straight sets 11-5, 11-8. He also won the boys’ under-15 title when he defeated Dharshana for the second time.

U-7: Gavidu Nethmira (Dharmaraja) beat Cheniru Kumarasinghe (Kingswood) 11/3, 11/3.
U-9: Hassan Zaman (Springfield College) beat Hussain Zaman (Springfield) 11/9, 13/11.
U-11: Kalana Nilupul (Kingswood) beat Kavith Dammika (Ecole Inter) 11/7, 11/5.
U-13: MH Bilal (St. Anthony’s Kandy) beat Dharshana Babaranuge (Vidyartha) 11/8, 13/11.
U-15: Osada Upekshana (Vidyartha) beat Dharshana Babaranuge (Vidyartha) 12/10, 11/5.
U-17: Vinu Dinsara (Poramadulla Central) beat Osanda Upekshana (Vidyartha) 11/7, 11/5.

U-15 Doubles: Osada Upekshana and Venura Abeyweera (Vidyartha) beat Yoshitha Vihangasiri (Vidyartha) and MH Bilal (St. Anthony’s) 11/5, 11/8.

Girls: Singles:

U-7: Viduni Chanara (C.C. College Haguranketha) beat Sesandi Andarawewa (Hillwood College) 13/11, 10/12, 11/3.
U-9: Hirudya Abeykoon (Girls’ HS) beat Thisumi Attanayake (Mahamaya) 7/11, 11/6, 11/6.
U-11: Aveesha Herath (St. Anthony’s Girls’) beat Thinithi Hapuarachchi (Mahamaya) 6/11, 11/8, 11/5.

U-13: Ameesha Kavindi (Vihara Maha Devi College) beat
Aaveesha Herath (St. Anthony’s Girls) 17/15, 9/11, 16/14

U-15: Yoshini Jayawardane (Mahamaya) beat Tashmi Katakumburage 11/3, 11/9.
U-17: Yoshini Jayawardane (Mahamaya) beat Roshen Arnolda (Good Shepherd Convent) 11/9, 11/2.

U-15 Doubles: Shiny Arnolda (Good Shepherd Convent) and Tashmi Ketakumburege (Girls’ HS) beat Yoshini Jayawardena and Thinithi Hapuarachchi (Mahamaya) 11/8, 11/9.

Open Men’s singles: Osanda Upekshana (Vidyartha) beat Dharshana Babaranuge (Vidyartha) 11/5, 11/8.
