Japanese Envoy meets AASL Chairman

The Japanese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Akio Isomata met Chairman of Airport and Aviation Services Sri Lanka(AASL) (Pvt) Ltd, Air Chief Marshal (Rtd.) Harsha Abeywickrema at the BIA to discuss airport operations and infrastructural development to accommodate increasing passenger demand.

Ambassador Isomata inspected the construction site of the BIA Terminal 2 and emphasised its strategic importance in alleviating capacity issues. He also reviewed equipment donated by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) funded by Japan, including an ambulance valued at approximately USD 100,000 and a digital signage system designed to enhance traveller experience. AASL plans to commence work on Terminal 2 in early 2025 with completion expected in 30 months.

The Ambassador reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Sri Lanka. Attendees included Yamada Tetsuya from JICA and other senior AASL officials.
