Every drop of blood has the power to write a story of hope. On the 27th of November, the Leo Club of University of Kelaniya became a canvas for a multitude of such stories through the first phase of the project “One Blood 3.0”.
In a heartwarming display of unity and compassion, the Healthcare Avenue of Leo Club of University of Kelaniya successfully completed the first phase of the project “One Blood 3.0”, the blood donation campaign. The blood donation drive stood as a testament to the spirit of selflessness, drawing participation from students, staff, and the community for a cause that truly saves lives.
Heroes in action
The event saw an overwhelming response from over 115 donors stepping forward to contribute life-saving blood. Additionally, more than130 individuals availed themselves of complimentary medical checkups, furthering the campaign’s holistic approach to community health. These numbers show that every blood donor is a true hero. The campaign celebrated the heroism in every blood donor, highlighting the life-saving impact of every blood donation. According to the Sri Lanka National Blood Transfusion Service, one donation can save up to three lives, which deeply resonated with the participants.
A collaborative effort
The event was a true testament to teamwork. Leo Club of University of Kelaniya, in collaboration with the Ragama Blood Bank, NCD Unit- Ministry of Health, and the Thalassaemia Unit, Mahara, ensured a seamless experience for the donors and the participants of the medical checkups. TV Derana, our official media partner, contributed to spreading this message of compassion.
The success of the event was possible through the dedication and hard work of countless volunteers, generous sponsors, and individuals who worked tirelessly to ensure the smooth operation of the campaign. Their contributions, though too numerous to name individually, were invaluable.
Acknowledging the heroes
As a gesture of gratitude, participants were offered refreshments and a small cactus plant as a token of appreciation. This thoughtful gift, symbolizing resilience and growth, was cherished and adored by the participants and added a personal touch to the event, making it even more memorable.
The journey ahead
The success of the first phase lays a solid foundation for the upcoming phases of project “One Blood 3.0”. They are aimed at spreading awareness about the importance of healthcare and community service. These efforts promise to extend the campaign’s positive ripple effect even further.
Healthcare Avenue of Leo Club of University of Kelaniya invites everyone to join hands on the upcoming phases of the project “One Blood 3.0” and be a part of this life-changing mission. For more information, follow their updates on social media.
