Sri Lanka is making an exciting milestone as they prepare to host the Faldo junior golf tournament and Pro-Am 2025, an international golf event for the first time.

This prestigious global event is set to be held at the scenic golf course of the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC) from January 7 to 9, 2025. It offers a unique and rare opportunity for young golfers to compete and showcase their talent on an international platform in Sri Lanka.

This tournament will be propped by DFCC Bank as the title sponsor.

Established in 1996 by the legendary six-time Major Champion Sir Nick Faldo, the Faldo Series is renowned as the worlds’ largest and most esteemed junior golf series. With an impressive legacy of nurturing and developing future golfing stars, the series attracts over 7,000 participants annually across 38 tournaments in 28 countries. Sir Nick, a celebrated icon in the golfing world, founded the series to give young athletes a platform to hone their skills, gain international exposure and pursue their dreams of becoming future champions. Past participants have gone on to achieve remarkable success, cementing the series’ reputation as a launching pad for golfing greatness.

Sri Lanka will be part of this remarkable journey for the first time. The Faldo Junior Tour will feature talented boys and girls competing in two age categories: 13-16 and 17-21.

This 54-hole tournament, accredited by the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), offers participants the chance to earn international ranking points and recognition.

Winners from each category will secure coveted spots at the Faldo Series Asian Grand Final in Vietnam, with the potential to advance to the prestigious European Grand Final, often held at world-class venues.

Adding even more excitement to the event, the Pro-Am competition will take place on January 5, 2025, ahead of the main tournament. Exclusively designed for DFCC Pinnacle customers, this unique competition provides an unforgettable opportunity to play alongside the next generation of golfing talent.

“We are incredibly proud to support the International Faldo Junior Golf Tournament. This event aligns with our commitment to fostering meaningful connections, empowering young athletes and offering Sri Lanka’s youth a platform to shine globally,” said Thimal Perera, CEO of DFCC Bank.

Amirth de Soysa the captain of the RCGC said the entry of DFCC Bank was a turning point for junior golf.

“Hosting the Faldo Series in Sri Lanka is a landmark moment for our golfing community. DFCC Bank’s generous support has made this event possible and we look forward to its lasting impact on the local golf scene and beyond,” said De Soysa.

An official of the RCGC said more information or registration for the tournament can be obtained by contacting Mahinda Perera at 0774006543 or email [email protected]
