Defending inter club league rugby champions CR and FC knocked down Navy SC by 38 points to 15 in their match played under lights at Longden Place yesterday while the result was always a foregone conclusion.
The home team scored six tries in all, four of which were converted in making up their 38 points while Navy SC replied with two tries one of which was converted to add to a penalty.
As the scoreline says it all CR had the game well in control and played to a plan although they could have scored more tries while Navy SC played only in patches and signed off with a consolation try in the final minute of play through Thilina Weerasinghe who made the conversion from a difficult angle.
Navy flanker Denuwan Wickremarachchi scored the other try midway in the second half.
For CR scrum half Vinduna Amanath opening their try-scoring early in the game and he followed it up with his second try late in the second half.
But CR’s Omalka Gunaratne proved too much for Navy with his physical strength as he also crossed the line for two tries for the Red Shirts. The other two tries for CR were scored by flanker Adheesha Weeratunga and fly half Thenuka Nanayakkara who made the conversion.
