Fazal Mohammed, from the Western Province Rugby Football Union (WPRFU) which has the highest number of votes, is tipped to be elected as the new President of Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) at its election of office-bearers scheduled for January 21.
The deputy president is likely to be Roshan Deen with SW Chang one of two vice presidents and Waruna de Silva tipped to be the Secretary.
An official from the schools association is likely to be the other vice president.
The Committee is likely to be made up of Colonel Samantha Samarasinghe (Army), Superintendant of Police Ajantha Rodrigo, Commodore TD Abeysundera (Navy), Chaminda Yapa, Brigadier Sunil Ranasinghe, Mohan de Silva (Petersons) and Lakmal Jayawardena (Sabaragamuwa RFU).
The administration of rugby fell to political bickering and internal squabbles that resulted in a government take-over in May this year without an election of office-bearers that led to a warning of a ban by World Rugby that set January 31 as a deadline for a solution.
Rizly Illyas was the last elected head of SLR and moved out in 2023.
