Major General Chandana Wickramasinghe has been appointed as the new Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army, according to the Army Media Unit. He assumed duties at the Army Headquarters yesterday.
Prior to this appointment, Major General Wickramasinghe served as the Director General General Staff (DGGS) at the Army Headquarters.
His military career began after completing basic training at the Indian Military Academy (IMA) (Regular Intake 87) and the Sri Lanka Military Academy (Intake 31). He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and assigned to the Gajaba Regiment as an Infantry Officer.
During his military career, he served in various roles, including as a Military Staff Officer in the United Nations mission in Haiti (2007–2008) and as a UN Civil-Military Trainer. His contributions to national defence and bravery during the war for peace have been recognised with multiple gallantry awards, including the Rana Wickrama Padakkama and the Rana Sura Padakkama, both awarded twice.
An alumnus of Matale Vijaya College and Dharmaraja College, Kandy, Major General Wickramasinghe has also served as the Director of Media and Military spokesman for the Army.
