Devapathiraja College Rathgama who have entered the Under-13 Division One inter school cricket final for the first time will confront defending champions DS Senanayake College on January 12 at a neutral venue to be announced.

Devapathiraja started cricket in the mid 1990s and emerged champions in the under-13 division II tournament in 2011 and were promoted in the following year.

Devapathiraja advanced to the second round as the third best team of their group as they beat Kalutara Vidyalaya and Gamini National School Bentota in the first round.

They lost to Mahinda College and Dharmasoka College in the first round and drew against Debarawewa National School and St. Thomas’ College Matara.

Devapathiraja beat Ananda in the second round and St. Thomas’ Matara in the pre-quarter-final. They won on the first inning against Thurstan in the quarter-final and beat Richmond College in the semi-final with Ranjan de Silva as their coach.

DS Senanayake beat Lumbini College, St. Joseph’s College, Harischandra National School Negombo and Galahitiyawa Central Ganemulla while losing to Thurstan College and drawing against Bandaranayake Central Gampaha in the first round.DS Senanayake beat Dharmasoka College in the second round and St. Benedict’s College in the pre-quarter-final.

They beat joint champions of the last season Royal College in the quarter-final and went on to beat Maris Stella College in the semi-final.

Miyuru Bandara who captains DS Senanayake has scored five centuries from 10 matches in the run-up to the final.
