The Pre-Insulated (PIR) duct industry in Sri Lanka has been subjected to controversy due to the low-quality products in the market, a media release from Lead Airtec stated. Lead Airtec, one of the authorised distributors of Kingspan Insulation in Sri Lanka, the Maldives, and Seychelles, calls upon its clients to purchase industry standard and reliable products. Standard insulation systems are manufactured using polyisocyanurate foam which is known for its thermal efficiency, lightweight design when compared with conventional Galvanised Iron (GI) ducts. GI ducts are comparatively heavier than PIR ducts which results in higher labour and difficulty in installation. Its rigidity limits design flexibility leading to costly modifications and need higher maintenance due to its susceptibility to corrosion in humidity despite its low price and robustness in resisting physical stress, the release added.
