Primani Wijeyesekera, with fifteen years of writing experience across various media has embarked on her debut book, Faith, in the Pit, published by The Jam Fruit Tree Publications. She considers this journey a leap of faith.
“My roots are in reading; it’s been my passion since childhood,” she said.
Books such as ‘The Secret Seven’ and ‘The Famous Five’ were her companions during lonely times, laying a strong writing foundation. Primani emphasised the need to read in an age dominated by screens, believing that reading fosters imagination and lifelong knowledge.
‘Faith, in the Pit’ draws from her personal struggles. In her early twenties, Primani faced health issues, a marital breakdown and challenges to conceive. This tumultuous period transformed her, shifting her faith in God. “Those years were brutally difficult, especially witnessing others have children,” she recalled. Yet, from that darkness, she cultivates hope and encouragement for others, especially women.
Journey through life’s challenges
“I wrote this book candidly about experiences many shy away from discussing,” Primani said. The title reflects her journey through life’s challenges. She spoke of the inherent faith people have in everyday life, even if they overlook their spiritual faith.
Primani experienced a profound personal growth through adversity, nurturing ‘“crazy faith’ that carried her through desperate times. The culmination of her struggles brought her the joy of her first child, a moment she cherishes.
Despite the chaos of raising young children, Primani found her writing flow effortless, considering it a divine inspiration. She began her book in 2019 and completed it by the year-end. She felt a strong call from God to have it published in 2024.
However, the pandemic postponed her plans, plunging her into a deeper depression. Ultimately, she included a vital chapter reflecting her pandemic experiences, which became essential to the book’s message.
Primani reflects on how her tribulations provided insight, reinforcing her belief that every challenge serves a purpose. ‘Faith, in the Pit’ aims to inspire hope and faith in a generation craving both. “Hope comes first; it’s a tiny ripple effect,” she said.
