Project “Play for Progress” – Igniting a passion for sports and balance

On December 28, the Leo Club of SLIIT successfully launched the first phase of the Diriya Prana project at the Kandy National Hospital, providing vital medical assistance to children suffering from thalassemia. Starting at 9:30 a.m., this heartwarming initiative aimed to offer much-needed support to these young patients, ensuring their health and well-being.

The project, dedicated to providing healthcare and hope, focused on offering blood donations, medical supplies, and raising awareness about thalassemia. Through this effort, the Leos took a step closer to building a society free of thalassemia, where children can lead healthy, thriving lives.

With a strong commitment to humanitarian values, Diriya Prana continues to inspire the community to unite in the fight against thalassemia and promote a better future for the children affected.

Project “Suwamanpetha” – December

The Leo Club of SLIIT organized the Suwamanpetha project on December 30 at the Karuna Elders Home in Boralesgamuwa. This impactful initiative focused on enhancing the quality of life for elderly residents by offering health education, medical assistance, and emotional support.

The event included a nutritious kanda, specially prepared for diabetic patients, served during the morning tea break, promoting healthy dietary habits. Leos then engaged the residents with songs and interactive entertainment, creating a joyful atmosphere. The Leos also prepared and served lunch for the elders and presented them with new clothes and essential items as New Year gifts.

A key contribution was the donation of glucometers and diabetes awareness posters to the care home, equipping the residents and staff with valuable resources for ongoing diabetes management. The project concluded with heartfelt gratitude from the residents, leaving a lasting positive impact on their lives.

Project “Feed the future” – Phase 1 – “Aswanna”

The Leo Club of SLIIT successfully concluded its impactful agricultural initiative, “Feed the Future Phase 01 – Aswanna,” on January 4, 2025, in Nawagamuwa, Wanduranmulla. This sustainable project aimed to empower rural communities by cultivating “Rthdall” rice, a nutrient-rich indigenous variety, on half an acre of land.

Activities included field preparation, planting, fertilization, irrigation, pest control, and harvesting. On project date Club members involved in planting “Rthdall” rice plants and fertilization.

After three months of dedication and care, the cultivated rice will be harvested, transforming into a vital resource to fuel future community initiatives, fostering nutritional security and paving the way for sustainable development. Continuing its legacy of service, the Leo Club of SLIIT remains committed to creating meaningful change.

Project “Voice of tomorrow” – Phase 1

Leo Club of SLIIT successfully concluded Youth Career Guidance Program, “Voice of Tomorrow – Phase 1,” on January 5, 2025, at the Keththarama Temple in Asgiriwalpola.

The event brought together over 100 enthusiastic young individuals aged 18 to 23, eager to explore diverse career opportunities and hone their leadership skills. This impactful program featured interactive workshops and vocational training sessions, equipping participants with vital tools to excel in their future endeavors. Experts from various fields conducted sessions on career pathways, personal development, and effective communication, inspiring attendees to pursue their aspirations with confidence.

The event not only empowered participants but also fostered a sense of community and collaboration. With the theme “Empowering Leaders, Shaping Careers,” the program underscored the importance of nurturing young leaders to build a brighter tomorrow.

The Leo Club of SLIIT successfully completed the first phase of their initiative, Project Play for Progress, on January 6 2025 at Philip Thilakawardena Maha Vidyalaya, Nawagamuwa. This impactful project aimed to foster an active lifestyle among students through the donation of essential sports equipment and an enlightening awareness session.

The event commenced with the distribution of much-needed equipment to the school, providing students with the resources to engage in various sports. Following this, an interactive session was conducted, emphasizing the significance of sports, physical activities, fitness, and managing academic workloads alongside extracurricular pursuits.
