The Young Muslim Women’s League (YMWL) will hold this year’s fundraiser titled ‘Shopping Fiesta 2025’ on Wednesday, February 12 from 10 am to 8 pm at the Rosewood Ceylon Banquet Hall, Hospital Road, Dehiwala. The Fiesta will have a variety of products including garments, household items, delicious cuisine which will include Muslim dishes and various types of food. The YMWL grants scholarships to underprivileged university students to pursue their higher studies in State universities. It also provides a healthy herbal porridge to pregnant women and the elderly in the neighbourhood on a regular basis. A weekly lunch is given free to about 70 students from a less affluent school in Colombo.
Another project undertaken by the YMWL is empowering and financing needy women in home- based businesses. Food hampers are also annually distributed to the needy comprising dry rations and food items. The YMWL maintains the Female Surgical Ward 11 at the Colombo South Teaching Hospital in Kalubowila, Dehiwala and fulfills the shortcomings of the Ward.
