Darshani Chandraratne, a healthcare assistant at the Polonnaruwa Hospital, won gold, silver and bronze medals at the South Asian Veteran’s Athletics Festival held in Bangalore, India from January 9 to 12.
Darshani, won gold medals in the 1500 and 400 metre long and short distance races and won silver medals in the 5000 and 800 metre events.
She was also involved with the team that won a bronze medal in the 4×100 metre relay and a silver medal in the 400×4 metre relay.
Darshani who resided in remote villages of Medirigiriya, Weligampura and Maha Ambagaswewa also took part in the 2019 Asian Veterans Games in Malaysia, where she won silver medals in the 800 and 1500 metres and participated in the 2023 Asian Veterans Games in Manila, Philippines to win a silver medal in the 5000 metres and a bronze medal in the 400×4 relay.
