Sri Lanka Tennis launched what is called ITF World Tennis Number with the goal of enticing more people to play the sport more often across Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka becomes the latest nation to launch this groundbreaking new global rating system.

Easy and free-to-use player rating system is powered by the International Tennis Federation (ITF), the global governing body for the sport.

According to SLT development officer Anupa, the number will be given on the details of the performance of each player in local tournaments by Sri Lanka Tennis who will communicate with the ITF. The ITF will study and go through each player and their number will be given accordingly. The process will have nothing to do with the ranking of each player..

The system provides a Number for singles and a Number for doubles and helps individuals find an opponent of a similar ability to compete against by utilizing industry-leading technology to match players.

The single global scale ranges from 40 (beginners) to 1 (the world’s best), allowing anyone to find the right match no matter where they are in the world.

Upon its launch, players across Sri Lanka will be able to use the platform to find their perfect match on court no matter their age, ability or gender.

The scale includes a unique feature called ‘Game ON’, which identifies evenly matched opponents on the scale, ensuring that players have the best experience on court. As players compete, they can gradually start to improve their number by recording and measuring their progress, as well as interacting with and assessing, other tennis players.

The ITF World Tennis Number aims to make tennis more accessible to people of all abilities across Sri Lanka and to create exciting experiences for players. Users will be able to identify the right players to compete against, whether they be in their local home environment or travelling for work or holiday across Sri Lanka or overseas.

“We are thrilled to announce the launch of the ITF World Tennis Number in Sri Lanka. This platform is a significant step forward in making tennis more accessible and inclusive for players of all ages and skill levels,” said Iqbal Bin Issack, President of SLT.
