DKA Priyadharshana a veteran Sri Lanka athlete won two gold medals, a silver medal and a bronze medal at the South Asian Veterans Athletics Championships held in Bangalore, India recently.
Representing the Sri Lanka Veterans Athletics Association, he competed in the 50 to 60 age group and won gold medals in the 400 hurdles, 110 hurdles, 400×4 hurdles, a silver medal in the 100×4 and a bronze medal in the 800 metres.
Priyadharshana has also competed in countries such as the Philippines, Malaysia, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, Indonesia and India and brought honour to Sri Lanka.
It is noteworthy that he has already won more than 150 medals locally, as well as in South Asian and Asian meets.
Priyadharshana, who was fond of sports since childhood, initially focused on cricket, but due to the hard life on the home front, he switched over to athletics.
After participating in cross-country running competitions and winning, he turned to athletics. Another specialty of his is that he achieved all these victories after his school days.
After obtaining employment at the People’s Bank in Dehiwala, Priyadharshana participated in the Nationalised Services Athletics Championships and achieved consecutive victories.
He also represented the bank in cricket, football, hockey and volleyball competitions and won colours.
In addition, he has also competed in cycling events, representing Sri Lanka in the Senior Athletics Championships setting Sri Lankan records and qualifying for international competitions.
