Project “HopePulse” – Phase 1

SLIIT Leos conducts ‘Hope Pulse’ Diabetes Awareness Project:

The Leo Club of SLIIT carried out the Hope Pulse diabetes awareness session on January 13, 2025at Sankapitti Raja Maha Vihara, Kaduwela, with over 100 participants joining hands to learn about managing and preventing diabetes.

The session aimed to educate the community on the risks, symptoms, and preventive measures of diabetes, empowering individuals with knowledge for a healthier future. As part of this initiative, SLIIT Leos prepared and served Belimal drinks, a traditional herbal beverage known for its health benefits, to all attendees. Additionally, awareness leaflets were distributed to enhance understanding and promote better lifestyle choices among participants.

The project aims to emphasize the importance of such health-related programs in the community. The Leo Club of SLIIT extends its gratitude to all participants, volunteers, and supporters who made Hope Pulse a resounding success.

This initiative highlights the club’s dedication to making a positive impact in society, encouraging a proactive approach towards diabetes awareness and prevention.


Project “Therapy of Life 2.0” – Phase 1

SLIIT Leos and Lions Club of Thalangama South holds blood donation campaign:

Leo Club of SLIIT, in collaboration with the Lions Club of Thalangama South, carried out The Therapy of Life 2.0 – blood donation campaign at Sri Sudarshanarama Purana RajamahaVihara, Malabe on January 21, 2025. The initiative, held from 8.30 am to 3:30 pm, saw the participation of over 50 donors who contributed to saving lives through their selfless act. The campaign aimed to support patients in need of blood transfusions, reinforcing the importance of voluntary blood donation in the community.

Volunteers and medical professionals ensured a smooth and safe donation process, while organizers extended heartfelt gratitude to all donors who came forward to make a difference. The Leo Club of SLIIT and Lions Club of Thalangama South continue to demonstrate its commitment to impactful service projects, and this successful initiative highlights the power of collective efforts in giving the gift of life.


Project “Trash to Treasure” – Phase 1

SLIIT Leos promote Sustainable Waste Management:

Leo Club of SLIIT concluded Trash to Treasure – Phase 2, a multi-day project aimed at educating school students on proper waste management and composting techniques.

The initiative was conducted at Bokundara Mahinda Vidyalaya on January 24 and Meedananda Vidyalaya on January 25, with participation from students and teachers alike. The workshops provided knowledge of sustainable waste disposal, innovative composting methods, and responsible consumption habits to encourage environmentally conscious behaviour from a young age.

A special contribution was made by the Mihisaru Resource Management Center, which played a key role in sharing expert insights and practical demonstrations on waste management solutions. Their support helped reinforce the importance of waste reduction and resource conservation in schools and communities.

The Leo Club of SLIIT continues to take meaningful steps towards environmental sustainability, and Trash to Treasure – Phase 2 stands as a testament to their dedication to fostering positive change.


Project “Suwamanpetha” – January

SLIIT Leos continue ‘Suwamanpetha’ initiative, spreading care for elders:

Leo Club of SLIIT completed Suwamanpetha – Phase 4, a heartfelt initiative dedicated to supporting the health and well-being of elderly residents at Gamange Arthur Perera Elders’ Home, Pannipitiya on 31st of January 2025.

Continuing their commitment to elderly care, the Leos made a meaningful contribution by donating glucometers and diabetes awareness posters to assist in long-term diabetes management at home. In addition, they conducted a diabetes awareness session, followed by blood sugar checkups for the residents, ensuring proactive health monitoring. Beyond medical support, the Leos brought warmth and companionship to the elders by engaging with them during tea time. They prepared and served evening tea along with snacks, fostering a comforting and home-like atmosphere. The evening concluded with a joyous entertainment session, where Leos and residents sang songs and shared interactive moments, filling the home with laughter and happiness.

Through Project Suwamanpetha, the Leo Club of SLIIT continues to uplift and care for senior citizens, reaffirming their dedication to service and community well-being.
