The free public programs for February at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Sri Lanka (MMCA Sri Lanka) will include a Gallery Talk on Wednesday, February 19, from 5.30 to 7 pm.
The talk will feature artist and academic T. Shanaathanan and Prof. Neloufer de Mel in conversation with Senior Curator at the MMCA Sandev Handy.
The discussion will delve into three of Shanaathanan’s works— ‘Grandma’s Courtyard II’ (2004), ‘Drawers of War Transactions’ (2019), and ‘Nation’ (2015)— which are currently on display at Rotation 2 of the exhibition ‘Total Landscaping’ at the MMCA Sri Lanka. The speakers will draw connections between the artworks and de Mel’s research on militarism, memory, and popular culture.
‘Total Landscaping’ concludes its second rotation on March 2, 2025, making February the final opportunity to engage with the artworks currently on display. Rotation 3 of ‘Total Landscaping’ opens on March 15. Admission to the museum and all events are free, offering a perfect opportunity for cultural exploration and discovery.
