The Embassy of Vietnam in Sri Lanka held a commemorative event to mark the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) at the Vietnam Embassy in Colombo recently.
The gathering brought representatives from the Sri Lankan political parties that have relations with the CPV, including the Communist Party of Sri Lanka (CPSL), the People’s Liberation Front (JVP), the Ambassador of Cuba and the Deputy Head of the Embassy of China, in a show of solidarity and friendship for Vietnam and its Communist party.

Vietnamese Ambassador Trinh Thi Tam delivered a speech detailing the 95-year journey of the CPV, highlighting its outstanding milestones and achievements. Her address painted a picture of resilience and progress, acknowledging the party’s pivotal role as the only leader and organiser of Vietnam’s national revolution in the old days as well as its economic development nowadays. The Ambassador recalled the invaluable support and assistance of fraternal parties worldwide for Vietnam, including those from Sri Lanka.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment Arun Hemachandra complimented the steadfast development Vietnam has achieved over the years under the leadership of the CPV. He said that in terms of regional politics, Vietnam serves as an exemplary model of left-oriented governance. He said that the consistent rule of the CPV has been crucial for Vietnam’s reunification as well as its economic growth and poverty alleviation. The Deputy Minister commended Vietnam’s significant role in shaping the diplomatic landscape, especially following its revolution, creating opportunities for left-oriented nations to collaborate.
General Secretary of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka (CPSL) Dr. G. Weerasinghe conveyed warm greetings from the CPSL to the CPV. He highlighted the milestones in the CPV’s development journey from its founding, praising its active and strategic role in the Vietnamese revolution, its heroic struggle, and its ongoing work today. He also paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh, acknowledging his legacy as a great patriot and internationalist.
Dr. Weerasinghe said that as part of ASEAN, the fastest-growing economic region in the world, Vietnam is a member with strong economic ties to its neighbouring countries, serving as a source of inspiration and strength for their own struggle.
The event was further enriched by felicitations from the attending parties, each expressing admiration for the legacy of the CPV. The event also highlighted the upcoming 14th National Congress of the CPV, scheduled to take place in early 2026.
