Police Media Spokesman SSP Buddhika Manathunga yesterday denied reports attributing statements to him regarding the details or determinations of the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court in the investigation involving Yoshitha Rajapaksa. He was speaking at a press conference at the Colombo Police Headquarters.

Manathunga clarified that he merely stated that, according to the Attorney General’s instructions, Daisy Forrest was to be named a suspect in the case and would be produced before the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court. He also reiterated that he had clearly mentioned that Forrest had been served a foreign travel ban by the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court.

“As the police spokesman, I will always state the truth and will not make false statements under any circumstances,” he said. Forrest has been named a suspect in a money laundering case involving a Rs. 59 million joint account held with Yoshitha Rajapaksa. Authorities allege that Rajapaksa failed to provide a reasonable explanation for the source of the funds.
