A lonely man he is
In his late seventies
His son and daughter are married
And have gone abroad
To provide their children
With so-called better future
Wife who promised, when they were lovers,
Not to leave him alone ‘till death do us part’
Is abroad looking after daughter’s grandchildren
He is healthy and fit, he thinks
Is he?, as he thinks
Seeing of doctors regularly
Something which he has no interest in
Doing it is,
Something which a man of his age supposed to
Now the lonely man not knowing what to do
Took to jogging, at last
Not as he has a will to live long
But as he can do nothing
His jogging track is a rectangle
Which he brisk-walks several rounds
Parallel to a track, he jogs along
There is a by-road
Which runs between the highway and
An area residential
A girl who is a pretty damsel
In her early twenties walking on the by-road
Probably, to work place of hers
He sees her face to face some mornings
Did he fail to feast his eyes on
That pretty girl, at least once ?
He will say no, as he is an honest man
He saw she too returns a smile when she sees him
Face to face
He sees she has become friendly and close now
One day she greeted him voicing “Good Morning”
He couldn’t believe his ears and returned the greeting
In shivering voice as his excitement
Didn’t know bounds
Whenever, she sees him now greets with words “Good Morning”
And a sweet smile
He knows his life changed all of a sudden
Now he passes day and night as a young boy cheerful
He spends the whole day and night
Waiting for the morning
To jog on the jogging track parallel to the by-road
He feels that he has developed a will to live
When he jogs facing eastwards, he sees the
Morning sky, where the Sun has risen,
As colorfully as he has seen never before
Whenever he sees her his heart’s speed goes up
Uncontrollably, but excitingly
Sometimes, his heart aches a bit, but he likes it
As he is a happy man now !
Then again, he has a worry enormous
Which burns his heart
He knows he has no way to express
How he feels, at least mildly,
Doing so is not for a man of his age
Chiefly, in a country like his!
Something has bottled up though
Many days he didn’t see the pretty damsel
Though his delight faded away a bit
He was hopeful
After some days,
He saw the girl appearing at the end of the by-road
A delight flooded his lonely heart
His heart started to beat like a drum
In a manner uncontrollable
He felt a severe pain in the chest
As she was approaching
His pain increased
When she passed him
One minute went by
His pain became unbearable and as never before
He breathed his last and fell on the jogging track
She went her own way not knowing anything
Will she ever know what happened that day?
