A group of 40 marketing undergraduates from the 23.2 and 24.1 intakes, along with the office-bearers of the Marketing Circle of NSBM Green University, recently embarked on an insightful field visit to Lake House – Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd. The visit provided a valuable opportunity for students to gain firsthand exposure to the operations of one of Sri Lanka’s most esteemed media organizations.

The visit, organized as part of the university’s practical learning initiative, aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and industry practices. The students were warmly welcomed by Chintake Yapa, Deputy General Marketing and Sudath Rajasinghe, Senior Manager – Advertising of Lake House, who provided an overview of the company’s rich history, operational mechanisms, and Lake House’s pivotal role in the Sri Lankan media landscape.

During the visit, students had the opportunity to explore various departments, including editorial, advertising, marketing, printing and press library. Experts from each division shared their experiences and insights, shedding light on the strategic marketing approaches employed by the organization to maintain its prominence in the media industry. The session also covered aspects of digital media transformation and the evolution of print media in the modern era.

One of the key highlights of the visit was an engaging discussion with industry professionals, where students actively participated, asking questions and gaining deeper knowledge of the role of marketing in the media sector.

This interactive session allowed them to understand the challenges and opportunities in media marketing, branding, and customer engagement strategies.

The field visit concluded with a note of appreciation from the NSBM Marketing Circle, expressing gratitude to Lake House for their hospitality and the wealth of knowledge shared. This experience enriched the students’ academic journey, equipping them with practical insights and a broader perspective on marketing dynamics within the media industry.
