How have you been? We have made some exciting changes to our newspaper. We will now be called the Observer Kids Chronicle and we are devoted to making the newspaper a fun and educational space for your little minds to grow with us.

We also like to introduce you to our new mascot Zippy the magical unicorn. We think Zippy will be an enjoyable addition to our newspaper and all of us will have lots of fun together. With that exciting news let’s learn something about a holiday right around the corner Maha Shivaratri!

Do you know Maha Shivaratri is an important day in the Hindu calendar for the Hindu and Tamil communities and it is a special day for many people all across the world. This day is celebrated with great devotion and honours Lord Shiva, who is one of the most powerful Gods in Hinduism. It’s not just a religious festival but also a time to learn about patience, self-discipline, and the power of devotion.

On Maha Shivaratri, people fast and stay awake through the night, praying and meditating. They believe that by doing so, they can connect with Lord Shiva and bring peace and happiness into their lives. Temples and homes are filled with the sound of prayers and chants as people offer flowers, fruits and milk to Shiva’s idol, known as a “lingam.”

The festival is also an oppertunity for families to come together and share stories of Lord Shiva’s power and wisdom. One of the most famous stories is about how Lord Shiva drank poison to protect the world during the churning of the ocean.

He is known as the “destroyer” because he helps to dispel bad things from the world, making space for new and good things to grow.

Maha Shivaratri teaches us an important lesson—staying calm, strong and focused, just like Lord Shiva. It’s a time to reflect on our own actions, set goals for improvement and be thankful for the blessings we have.

So, whether you stay up all night, visit a temple, or simply learn about the greatness of Lord Shiva, Maha Shivaratri is a wonderful day to celebrate and spread love, peace and kindness. It reminds us that no matter how busy life gets, it’s always good to pause, reflect and connect with the deeper parts of ourselves.

See you next week
