The Government has issued a Gazette Extraordinary extending the ban on 15 organisations, including the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), due to their alleged involvement in terrorism-related activities and financing.
The Gazette, signed by the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha, reiterated that these organisations have persistently provided financial support for terrorism, leading to the continued freezing of their financial and economic assets.
The Government also reaffirmed its stance on 222 people linked to terrorism. The extended ban includes several groups, including the LTTE, Tamil Rehabilitation Organisation (TRO), Tamil Coordinating Committee (TCC), World Tamil Movement (WTM), Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE), World Tamil Relief Fund (WTRF), Headquarters Group (HQ Group), National Thowheed Jama’ath (NTJ), Jama’ate Millathe Ibrahim (JMI), Wilayah As Seylani (WAS), National Council of Canadian Tamils (NCCT), Tamil Youth Organisation (TYO), Darul Ath’thabawiyya, Sri Lanka Islamic Student Movement (SLISM) and Save the Pearls.
