Founder of ‘Thinakkural’ S.P. Samy passes away

Renowned Tamil newspaper publisher and businessman S.P. Samy, the founder of ‘Thinakkural’ and ‘Yarl Thinakkural’, passed away on February 19 at the age of 89.

Beyond his contributions to journalism, Samy was a respected entrepreneur and a key figure in Sri Lanka’s business community. He was a founding member and the first chairperson of the Colombo Pettah Traders Association. He also served as the first chairperson of the Jaffna Northern Central Hospital, S.P. Samy Investment Complex (Pvt) Ltd, Northern Publications (Pvt) Ltd, and United Merchant Company.

His remains lie at his residence, 44, Chetty Street, Nallur, Jaffna. The funeral will take place today (February 23) at 9.00 a.m.
