Sri Lanka claims bronze at Asian Rifle/Pistol Cup, while Umaya sets national record

Sri Lanka claimed the bronze medal in the Women’s Junior 10m Air Pistol Team event, while Umaya Kumarasiri accounted for a new National Record at the Asian Rifle/Pistol Cup 2025 held at the SAT Shooting Range in Bangkok, Thailand.

Sri Lanka secured third place in the Women’s Junior 10m Air Pistol team event, represented by Thisangi Geethma, Reinya Ranasinghe and Vinuthmee Seneviratne, who displayed great spirit to earn podium finish. Sri Lanka finished with a total of 1640-23x, next to Thailand, who claimed the gold medal and silver medallists from Kazakhstan. Thailand, represented by Nattaya Boonchuen, Lalanari Thipmom and Natthika Khlaisap, were way ahead of other contenders with 1674-34x, while Kazakhstan, represented by Kristina Ustinova, Saule Alimbek and Malika Seil, finished slightly ahead of Sri Lanka with 1643-23x to pocket the silver medal.

Thisangi Geethma was the standout shooter out of the lot, as she fired the best of 96 points in her third attempt, the best among all competitors, in her outings that recorded 89, 92, 91, 93 and 90. Vinuthmee shot 93, 88, 94, 89, 92 and 94 while Reinya achieved 89, 90, 91, 89, 93 and 87 to help Sri Lanka accumulate the final tally. Thisangi is pursuing her degree at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. Reinya Ranasinghe is a student of Colombo International School, Kandy while Vinuthmee Seneviratna is from the South of Sri Lanka and attends Southland College, Galle.

Meanwhile young shooting sensation, Umaya Kumarasiri, a Grade 11 student of Dharmapala Vidyalaya, Pannipitiya, scored 618.3/654, surpassing the previous Sri Lanka Junior Women’s 10m Air Rifle record of 616.2/654. Despite being contended with her latest achievement, Umaya noted that she had to undergo tough competition to claim a finish that put her achievement as a national record.

Sri Lanka was represented by eight athletes at the Asian Rifle/Pistol Cup 2025 that attracted top ranked shooters from the region. The event, which began on February 9, continued until February 22. All athletes selected to represent Sri Lanka are members of the respective national pools of the National Shooting Sport Federation of Sri Lanka.
