Atukorale, affectionately called either Sarath or Atu, was well known for his sincerity and concern for others. He was an exceptionally fine person whom one will rarely come across.
We first met him in Nigeria, forming a closely knit group of friends drawn from different parts of Sri Lanka. This is where we developed a strong bond which we continued till he bade goodbye to all of us, putting everybody to bitter grief.
It is very sad to hear that he is no more. We have lost a sincere, genuine personality from our midst. He is a kind hearted, energetic individual with a determined attitude to his responsibilities.
He was born to a respectable, well-renowned family. He received a solid foundational education at Sripali Vidyalaya, Horana, close to his native place.
He was good both in studies and sports. He excelled in studies bringing joy to his parents. He graduated from the University of Peradeniya. His contemporaries are now distinguished seniors who have done wonders in Sri Lanka and abroad.
Sarath had a character hard to define. An Engineer by profession, his knowledge and understanding of the world were wonderful. His professional career was an achievement.
He was well recognised for his administrative capabilities. He was well-respected and held in high esteem by his colleagues, subordinates, and staff wherever he worked.
He was cheerful and unassuming that they had great admiration for him. His willpower and methodical ways went a long way in improving the standard of the institutions.
His commitment to family is a good quality to be appreciated. Sarath was a devoted husband to Chandra, his caring, dedicated wife.
They tackled all of life’s challenges and joys together with mutual support, steadfastness, and sacrifice. He was an affectionate dad to his two daughters, Prabhani and Vajini.
His memory is also cherished by his grandchildren, Maya and Naomi, and by his son-in-law, Sumeda. He was always the happiest together with his family. There was love, care, and warmth aplenty, making their family special.
He eagerly followed the teachings of the Buddha, Dhamma, and Sangha.
His faith in Buddhism enriched his life. Sarath left a beautiful memory, and it will live on through his work and those who treasure his lasting impact on their lives.
May he attain the Supreme Bliss of Nibbana.
