Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) Chairman D.J. Rajakaruna said yesterday that fuel distributors would receive a higher commission than the previous three percent under a new commission distribution formula that is set to be introduced. The Fuel Distributors’ Association said on Friday that they would refrain from placing fuel orders from Saturday in protest against the CPC’s decision to abolish the existing three percent commission.
However, Rajakaruna assured that this decision would not lead to a fuel shortage. He said the new formula would provide greater benefits to fuel distributors.
“The first 15 loads are paid at Rs 6.96 per litre, and the next 15 loads at Rs 6.62. Many distributors handle around 25 loads, and they are still earning about Rs 1 million. Yet, they say they cannot sustain their operations after paying the salaries,” he said. “Those handling 25 loads will receive Rs 6.69 per litre, bringing their total earnings to Rs 1,103,850 under the new system,” he added.
