Computers were presented to the winning schools at the Pakistan Badminton Championship organized the Pakistan High Commission held at the Sabaragamuwa Indoor Sports Complex, Newtown, Ratnapura from February 21 to 23.
The championship was organized as a continuation of last year’s successful competition. Participants from 40 local schools in the Ratnapura District in the Under-15, Under-17 and Under-20 categories participated in the Championship.
Deputy High Commissioner of Pakistan Wajid Hassan Hashmi was invited as Chief Guest at the awards presentation ceremony. He awarded trophies and distributed certificates among the winners in the final matches and qualifiers.
Pakistan High Commission Press and Culture Secretary Adeel Sattar and Second Secretary Iftikhar Hussain from Pakistan High Commission also attended the awards ceremony.
Rathinapura Schools Sports teachers and sports in charge Education office also participated.
While addressing the players, management and audience, the Deputy High Commissioner highlighted the importance of sports activities in bridging the bonds of friendship and the peoples’ contact between the two countries.
He underlined that Pakistan and Sri Lanka have been maintaining close, cordial and mutually supportive relationships. These kinds of sports events are testament to bilateral friendship at grass root level.
As a goodwill gesture, the Deputy High Commissioner also distributed Pakistani made sports kits among the players and presented computers for the winning schools. He thanked the organizers for arranging a befitting Pakistan Badminton Tournament 2025.
