Dinada Athalage’s century helped Ananda College pass 300 run mark against Nalanda College in their 95th “Battle of the Maroons” Annual Cricket encounter on the second day played at SSC ground yesterday.

Intermittent rain could spoil the outcome of the game and is now certain to finish in a stalemate.

Nalanda College won the toss and elected to field.

Ananda scored 324 runs for 6 wickets in 92.2 overs. Dinada Athalage scored an invaluable 131 runs from 288 deliveries with 11 boundaries. Kenul de Zoysa scored 73 runs off 141 deliveries with 7 boundaries. Dinada Athalage and Kenul de Zoysa put on a partnership of 145 runs for the fourth wicket.

Nalanda could score only 58 runs for no loss at the close. Openers Nadul Jayalath (28*) and Sadew Samarasinghe (27*) put on an unbroken 58 runs partnership for the first wicket.

The match will continue today for day three.
