The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) launched its 2025 curriculum on February 27, marking a significant shift in the role of Chartered Accountants.
The chief guest was Secretary to the Prime Minister, Pradeep Saputhanthri. Industry and business leaders, senior government officials, and representatives of professional accountancy organisations and academia were present.
The 2025-2030 curriculum introduces a series of features that reflect the changing demands of the global business environment. No longer confined to traditional financial roles, Chartered Accountants will emerge as strategic business leaders, technology-driven professionals, and ethical communicators. The new CA Curriculum will ensure they are prepared to steer organisations through complex challenges and opportunities.
As the profession evolves beyond traditional financial expertise, the new curriculum equips Chartered Accountants to lead in a rapidly changing business landscape shaped by digitisation, artificial intelligence, and sustainability. It fosters technical excellence, ethical leadership, and strategic impact, ensuring accountants are prepared for emerging challenges.
With a strong focus on AI-driven financial analysis, data analytics, and automation, the curriculum empowers accountants to deliver strategic insights and drive business decisions. Digital literacy and sustainability are also integrated to meet evolving stakeholder expectations. Centered on three key pillars — Trusted, Strategic, and Storyteller — it enhances the capabilities of future Chartered Accountants, positioning them as influential leaders in the profession.
Heshana Kuruppu said that the pioneering 2025-2030 curriculum is designed to equip the next generation of Chartered Accountants with the critical skills to adapt, innovate, and lead in a rapidly evolving business landscape. Moving beyond traditional financial stewardship, the curriculum integrates AI-driven financial analysis, digital literacy, and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) reporting, ensuring that Chartered Accountants become trusted advisors and strategic business leaders.
“By combining technical excellence, ethical integrity, and storytelling skills, we are shaping professionals who can analyse, strategise, and articulate insights that drive meaningful business decisions. This curriculum is more than just a qualification, it is a transformative pathway that empowers accountants to navigate complex challenges and make a lasting impact on the global economy,” Kuruppu said.
Sanjaya Bandara said that CA Sri Lanka’s commitment to equipping its members for the digital age is embodied in the new curriculum, which combines technical excellence with strategic thinking and ethical leadership.
“The three key promises, which are Trusted, Strategic, and Storyteller, guide the curriculum’s approach. Chartered Accountants will uphold the highest standards in financial reporting and management accounting while also becoming leaders in sustainability and governance. The focus on storytelling through leadership, negotiation, and communication skills will help accountants translate financial data into impactful business strategies,” he said.
