There are far more reasons to visit the FarCry than being a getaway location. It’s perfect to experience the natural beauty of Sri Lanka and the large pool will be loved by those who enjoy taking a dip at sunset or at the crack of dawn.
A great place to unwind in the midst of peaceful surroundings overlooking the Mahaweli.
What’s more the FarCry is in close proximity to many popular tourist attractions including the Wasgamuwa National Park, home to majestic elephants, leopards, the sloth bear, many rare sightings of exotic birds and the Maduru Oya National Park, Veddhas of Dambana, the Mahiyangana temple and the Sarabara lake. The FarCry has made a name for iits’ traditional Sri Lankan cuisine known for its’ bold flavours and spices. You are recommended to try some of the local vegetable and meat dishes made to perfection village style. Some of the popular dishes include varied rice and deliciously made curries and the ever popular Koththu which is a shredded roti bread mixed with vegetables and spices and the freshly picked local green orange is a must drink before you leave.
The FarCry offers a wide range of activities within the premises from a dip in the pool to long walks in the five acre property or explore the Mahaweli and enjoy the natural beauty of the area. The FarCry offers stunning views of the surrounding hills and rare exotic bird species are found in the area.
During the fruit bearing season, guests are allowed to pick fruits off the many trees planted in the hotel from veralu, a local olive to Uguressa, a sweet and sour local cherry or guava to mango and many other local fruits.
A stay at the FarCry will make you realise that they’ve got it all for a wonderful vacation in the wilds surrounded by nature and the tasty food that is well laid out in a rustic backdrop of the large living area where space and furnishings are tastefully blended to match the surroundings.
The hospitality is exceptional with personal attention given to all requests of guests and followed up to ensure that all is well. We had the opportunity to meet the Public Relations Manager, Nadine Fernando of the FarCry whose skills were exemplary and the team shared her enthusiasm in ensuring that all guests were looked after at all times. It was ensured that all six rooms in the spacious building beautifully designed by our own popular architect Navin Guneratna. The architecture and the soft furnishing blended so well, that the rustic atmosphere in the living area blended with the surroundings. So much so, one wouldn’t be able to sometimes distinguish if you are really in or in the outdoors, especially at the poolside area where the high roofs protected you but yet so open that you could sit at breakfast lunch or tea and gaze at the jungles not so far away!
