In the heart of southern Sri Lanka, just a 45-minute drive from Hambantota and in close proximity to the renowned Yala National Park, lies Elephant Reach Yala, a wildlife resort that seamlessly blends luxury with nature. Established in 2006 with 21 rooms, the resort has expanded to 35 rooms, reflecting its growing success and commitment to excellence.

In an interview with the Sunday Observer ANCL, Managing Director of Elephant Reach, Malinga Fernando shared insights into the resort’s journey, achievements, and future aspirations.

Today, the resort operates with renewed vigour, optimistic about the industry’s positive curve.

Beyond Wildlife: A Cultural and Ecological Haven

While Yala National Park remains a primary attraction, Elephant Reach Yala offers guests a holistic experience that delves deeper into the region’s rich cultural and ecological tapestry. The resort is strategically located near significant landmarks such as the Kataragama Temple and the historic Kirinda Rajamahaviharaya, both steeped in history and tradition.

Guests are introduced to local customs, including the traditional art of curd making—a delicacy in southern Sri Lanka. The resort emphasizes educating visitors about local tourism, village life, and the distinctive southern lifestyle, offering a comprehensive understanding of the area’s heritage.
