If you are a fan of James Bond, especially those featuring Daniel Craig, you would have seen the latest Omega watches on his wrist both on and off the screen. Omega uses Craig as a sort of a guinea pig to test drive its upcoming watches and he can regularly be seen wearing Omegas that are not yet available to the public or at least to those who have enough cash to buy an Omega, Rolex’s nearest Swiss competitor.

In line with this James Bond theme, Omega has introduced a new pair of Seamasters with a water resistance/depth rating of 300 metres (hence the 300M). These special 42 mm “Bronze Gold” editions are inspired by the Omega Seamaster Diver 300M 007 Edition that was launched in 2020 for No Time to Die, which was incidentally Craig’s last Bond film. In the meantime, the James Bond franchise has passed on Amazon Studios (of Jeff Bezos fame) and the hunt for a new Bond is still on. There is no idea whether Omega will continue the collaboration with Amazon.

The watches retain the mesh bracelet, oxalic anodised aluminum bezel ring and dial, and domed sapphire crystal, which are now rendered in Bronze Gold, apparently developed in-house by Omega. It offers corrosion resistance without so-called “verdigris oxidation”, allowing for a slow ageing process that results in a natural and beautiful patina over a longer period of time. In addition to the mesh bracelet, the second variation is offered on a sporty rubber strap, which is much cheaper (comparatively speaking).

The new “Bronze Gold” material is actually made up of palladium and silver. These two metals are engineered to seamlessly blend the aesthetic appeal of bronze with the prestige of gold. Although it resembles typical bronze, this alloy offers superior corrosion resistance and remarkable stability, maintaining its color for decades to come.

According to Omega, the 42 mm Bronze Gold case is finished with a burgundy bezel insert, creating an elegant harmony of warm tones and enough color to feel interesting. The matte black dial is embellished with PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition, a method that applies precious metals to watches and bracelets) 18K Bronze Gold hands and blackened indices, applied with Super-Lumi Nova for optimal legibility even in total darkness on land or in the water. Some watches are so good at this that you do not need a separate dive light.

As mentioned earlier, Omega is offering two different options for the wrist. Buyers can choose between a brushed Bronze Gold mesh bracelet version on a fold-over clasp or an integrated black rubber strap with a Bronze Gold buckle.

The watch is powered by the Omega Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8806. The watch Reference Number is 210.90.42.20.01.003. This METAS-certified movement guarantees an accuracy between 0/+5 seconds per day while also offering exceptional magnetic resistance up to 15,000 gauss. The Omega Seamaster Diver 300M in bronze gold is now available for US$ 27,900 (approx LKR 8 million) with the bracelet or US$ 13,900 (approx LKR 4 million) with the black rubber strap. It is best to go for the latter option, even if you have the cash.
