Several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were recently signed between the Acting Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya and the Registrar General W.R.A.N.S. Wijayasinghe at the Police Headquarters. Since the Registrar General’s Department maintains all key civil records, such as births, marriages, and deaths, a spokesman for the Police Media Unit said its support is vital for the law enforcement agency in obtaining critical information swiftly for criminal investigations. The police will now have timely access to these civil records, enabling quicker and more efficient resolution of investigations under the terms of these agreements.
