Grandpass police have arrested a group of suspects in connection with the alleged hacking to death of two brothers, aged 23 and 24, in the Kelanitissagama area of Grandpass yesterday, authorities said.

The brothers were murdered in the morning with sharp instruments. The suspects were arrested in the afternoon following investigations, police added.

At the time this story went to press at 6 pm, the suspects were being questioned by police.

The murders are believed to have stemmed from a violent clash between two groups in the Weheragodella area earlier that morning. The deceased were from Grandpass.

Police said the two brothers had been injured in the confrontation involving sharp weapons and later succumbed to their injuries after being admitted to the Colombo National Hospital.
