Secretary to the Ministry of Health, Dr. Anil Jasinghe has appointed a three-member committee to assess the security measures and overall facilities for doctors and staff at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital. The committee has been tasked with investigating concerns and submitting a comprehensive report to the Health Secretary. Health Service Director of the North Western Province, Dr. M.K. Sampath Indika has been appointed as the committee’s Chairperson, while Health Ministry Director, Administration, W.U.K. Croos and Health Ministry Investigation Officer O.B.J. de Silva will serve as members. According to Health Ministry officials, significant administrative shortcomings have been identified following the assault of a female doctor at the hospital on March 10. Officials also noted deficiencies in the management of hospital assets, movable and immovable, as well as lapses in security and staff welfare.
The committee has been directed to conduct a thorough investigation and submit its report by March 24, 2025.
